Learn the Four Basics of Plumbing

Ken Franklin

Four basic plumbing tasks are essential for everyone who rents an apartment or owns a home or business. By learning a few plumbing tips, Denton area residents can avoid many major plumbing problems and know better when to call on the services of a professional plumber.

Clean Drains Drain cleaning is a must in every building because the drain system has a frequent clogging tendency, not only due to grime and food, but also from sediment in the pipes. You have to maintain a regular sewer cleaning service. In this case, the plumbers usually opt for the hydro-jetting technique when the plumber’s snake or chemical treatments are unsuccessful at washing out hard sediment layers or tree roots. Hydro-jetting is somewhat like power washing, which pushes the water under extreme pressure (minimum 20 gallons a minute), blasting the sewer walls and drain.Detect Leaks The old pipes tend to wear away with age and start developing leaks. It is especially common to see this if the building was constructed between 1978 and 1995. At that time, water pipes were manufactured from Poly Butylenes, which do not endure over time. This can be dangerous, because if the pipe suddenly bursts, you will have serious flooding in your home. Thus, if you have an unexpectedly higher water bills or hear an unusual swooshing sound, it might be a leak. In such case, call a professional plumber immediately for leak detection

Tankless Water Heaters Most commercial building managers today prefer tankless water heaters

over the conventional ones, because tankless water heaters can lower your energy bill by a minimum of 20 percent. A traditional heater heats up a huge amount of water (almost 70 gallons) every day whether you use it or not. Tankless water heaters only heat when you need the hot water, as there is no tank to store the excess. A tankless water heating system can run on gas or electric, and its units are centrally situated under your sink or within a nearby closet. Contact an experienced Denton plumber who has a solid reputation to help you select the perfect tankless water heater and complete a trouble free installation.

FaucetsFaucet installation

is a basic plumbing fixture found in any apartment, home or business. Sometimes you need to install a new faucet, or just repair an existing tap. Professional plumbers are armed with the proper expertise and tools to do all types of faucet installations and repairs. Often, people prefer decorative plumbing fixtures. These unique faucet designs may not be easy to install on your own, however. For flawless installation of decorative plumbing fixtures like designer faucets, shower heads and sinks, you should always trust experienced plumbing professionals.

How to Make Wax Figures

Jamie Highland

There are many forms of art. Some are all around us, while others are products of certain individuals with exceptional creativity and imagination. One modern marvel of art in today’s age is wax figures that look just like real people. Across the globe, there are several museums that display life size wax figures – prototypes of various prominent personalities.

From the looks of it, wax figures are very hard to make. But if you are determined to make one on your own then you should first have all the materials and tools necessary and have a simple glimpse of the processes needed in making wax figures.

Step 1: Get an ample amount of clay and sculpt a primary model out of it. What you need are photo images of the subject as well as its actual measurements. This is important to incorporate all the details from the images to the sculpture.

YouTube Preview Image

Step2: Make an appropriate mold fit for the model. It should be able to hold the needed amount of natural and petroleum based molten wax mixture once poured inside. The thickness of the poured solution should only be at most 2 inches.

Step 3: Leave the wax and let it harden for a couple of hours. Remove the mold.

Step 4: Using your sculpting tools, remove all excess and unnecessary wax. It is in this stage where refinements are made. This could take hours or even days until the perfect replication is achieved.

Step 5: Apply a mixture of colored wax and oil paint on the surface of the finished product to bring the subject to life.

Step 6: Apply all the required costume and/or props on the molded product.

The above given steps are just part of a simple and basic procedure. But before doing these steps, you first need to decide what type of figure to make out of wax. In a wax figure, details are hard to emphasize. You must at least practice a few times using clay. You should also take a few good looks at the subject that you are trying to replicate. Familiarization is a vital factor. For first timers, there is a possibility that your first end-products wouldn’t come out as expected and it make take a few tries to get the desired outcome.

Wax figures may vary in sizes. For people who are still just trying to make something out of scraps, a small end-product is more appropriate. Life-like wax figures are the hardest to make. Completion of a single project would require several people for a few days.

Safety First:

Making wax figures is not as simple as making your own gift wraps. Some things could go wrong somewhere during the whole procedure. You will be forced to repeat things over and over wasting money, time and effort in the process. You could also get hurt. So it is strongly encouraged to ask for some assistance from an expert. You could also at least get a manual for the activity to thoroughly guide you in your work.

How to Make Wax Figures

By Katrina White

House cleaning isn’t easy, especially if you haven’t done it all your life. Good housekeeping involves a lot of little details that you can easily forget — which is why it’s always good to have a house cleaning schedule at the ready. Here are some tips on coming up with your own schedule.

First, get a piece of paper and fold it into four sections. Write the words “SPRING CLEANING ,” “LESS OFTEN,” “WEEKLY,” and “DAILY” into the sections.

Next, walk into each room of your home and decide which cleaning activities need to be done in each one. Write down the activities in the appropriate section of the paper — for example, you may want to fluff your pillows daily, but only vacuum the rugs weekly. Don’t stay too long in any one room — jot the cleaning activities down and move on to the next.

Finally, take a look at all the cleaning activities you’ve listed down. Decide which weekday you’d like to do each activity. For instance, if everyone’s out of the house on Wednesday mornings, that may be the best time to clean the bathroom. If you plan to have parties every weekend, then tidying up the patio may be best done on Fridays.

Here’s what your house cleaning schedule may look like. You can use this as a guide, but since your home is special, make sure you only list down the cleaning activities that REALLY need doing!

Sample House Cleaning Schedule (Daily)

1. Make the beds

2. Put toys and clothes in their places.

3. Wash the dishes and wipe down the cooktop.

4. Clear trash cans.

5. Check hamster cage lining.

6. Wipe down bathroom sinks.

Sample House Cleaning Schedule (Weekly)

A. Tidy up the kitchen

1.Mop tile floors

2.Wipe down appliances with lemon cleaner

3.Wipe down countertops

4.Polish kitchen sink

B. Tidy up the bathroom

1.Scrub sink, toilet, faucets, and bath tub

2.Disinfect toilet

C. Dust off furniture

D. Dust off shelves

E. Beat area rugs

F. Vacuum carpets

G. Mop all tile floors

H. Change bedding

Store fresher sheets at the bottom of your linen closet to make sure your sheets rotate well. Wash linens in warm water, using non-chlorine bleach if necessary. All-cotton sheets, comforters, and blankets must be washed in colder water.

I. Sweep Porch and Entry Areas

Get an industrial broom (one you’d use in a large space like warehouse, for instance) for sweeping outdoor areas. Smaller brooms will do for other areas of the home.

Sample House Cleaning Schedule (Monthly)

1. Wash window curtains

2. Clean all mirrors

3. Muck out trash area in kitchen

4. REALLY clean out the oven

5. Defrost and clear your refrigerator if you don’t have a frost free

Now comes the hard part — putting your schedule into action! The more closely you follow your housekeeping checklist, the easier cleaning will become for you. But make sure you don’t have to do major cleaning EVERY single day — you’ll also need days off to enjoy your handiwork.
